Real Estate Closings During COVID-19
Less People at the Closing Table
There no longer is one closing table where all the parties, attorneys and Realtors meet to complete the transaction. Each side meets with the own counsel and documents and funds are exchanged by counsel after the signing. Sellers typically pre-sign their documents now and overnight them to the Buyers' attorney who wires funds to the Sellers' attorney.
Safety Proceedures
Our conference room is cleaned and disinfected after every closing. All staff and attendees are required to wear masks. We are continuing to limit the number of staff in our office on a given day to minimize exposure. Closings are also spaced out to allow time for cleaning and parties to leave without overcrowding.
Swapping Keys
Keys are generally not brought to the closing and are not passed off to the attorneys to handle. The Realtors will typically pass the keys on to the new owners after the closing has been completed to minimize the number of people coming into contact with them and who are present at the closing.
